Pekka Paikkari

For me sketching is one way to get to know the tactile material.

Paikkari has been a member of the Arabia Art department Society in Helsinki since 1983, and is internationally recognized for his fragmented wall works, unique sculptures and monumental public installations. 

”Drawing the surface of the three-dimensional sculpture in flat surface helps me understand the behavior of the material. Fragility and erosion of the stones and clay are an integral part of the content of my work. I would like to welcome the viewer to take a peek at the origins of my work”.

Tuukka Paikkari

Tuukka Paikkari has a strong background in graphic design. That is something you can clearly see in his art. The use of basic and minimalistic shapes together with a narrow colour palette creates a straightforward and engaging visual world. Furthermore there is always something organic present in his work. The natural features of different mediums, such as ink, form unpredictable surfaces where the viewer can find something compelling and new every single time.
